THE CYCLE OF PRAYER  -  ORDINARY TIME (SUMMER)

A deeper understanding between Christians and Jews; Those who Suffer Persecution, Oppression and Denial of Human Rights Europe; Human Life; Seafarers.

 

THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST 9th & 10th JUNE

To help us celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ a deanery-wide Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament has been organised.  It will start on 9th June with Exposition at St. Mary’s from 4.00pm—5.00pm, Holy Rosary from 4.30pm—5.30pm.

Sunday 10th June

10.30am — 11.30am  Immaculate Heart

12.30pm —   1.30pm  Holy Rosary

  1.00pm —   3.00pm  St. Joseph’s

  3.00pm —   4.00pm  St. Benet’s

  4.00pm —   5.00pm  Sacred Heart

  5.00pm —   6.00pm St. Hilda’s

  6.00pm —   7.00pm  St. Leonard’s

This gives us all an opportunity to come and spend some quiet time of prayer and reflection before the Blessed Sacrament on this important Feast Day.

 

LAY TRAINING FUND

There is a Retiring Collection at both Masses this weekend for the Lay Training Fund.

 

AFRICAN MASS

There is an African mass today at 2pm at St. Joseph's Gateshead.

 

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS FOR PARISH CENTENARY

 

Sat 7th July Parish Pilgrimage to Holy Island.

Please sign up for the PILGRIMAGE at the back of church as soon as possible. We will give you more details about time of departure and also the tide timetables should you wish to go by car.

 

Fri 28th September

Concert in church with the Cobweb Orchestra and Music Makers.

 

Thurs 11th - 14th October, Parish Flower Festival to finish off our year long celebrations ending on Sunday 14th October at 3pm with Centenary Mass. Bishop Kevin will be the main celebrant.

 

FLOWER FESTIVAL CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

We are looking for a title for our Flower Festival and are open to suggestions. So if you are good with words and can think of an appropriate title (short and sweet) write it down and place in the box marked Flower Festival at the back of church as soon as possible. Our last Flower Festival was "Thine Be The Glory".

 

CRICKET

India will play the rest of the world to try to retain the Dennis Cunningham Memorial Trophy on Sunday 1st July at. 1.00 pm. Everyone is welcome to Ryhope Hospital Cricket Ground - bring a picnic for a great family event. If you want to play for India call Raju of the Indian Cultural Association on (. Rest of the World players call Bob on (. As it is rumoured that the Irish can indeed play cricket, so if you're Irish or of Irish descent then come along and gives us the proof!

 

FIRST COMMUNIONS

Next Saturday and Sunday we have some of our children celebrating First Holy Communion. Please remember them and their families in your prayers.

 

BAPTISM & CONFIRMATION

Parents for Baptism and all candidates for Confirmation will meet in St. Cuthbert's Chapel at 7pm on Tuesday, 5th June. Also remember the parents, children and our young people and their families who are preparing for the Sacraments.

 

WALKING WITH WHEELS

A programme of assisted walks for people with limited mobility and wheelchair users living across Sunderland, where you can meet new people to keep you fit and improve your health. Walks are set at a moderate pace and the maximum length is 2 miles. Walks are led by qualified leaders. Carers are welcome. Wednesday 30th May Chester Ie Street River walk starts at 11am with packed lunch or cafe in park. Leave park at 2 pm. Cost £3 per person. Carers free! LITTLE SISTERS FLAG WEEK 10th-16th JUNE

We are looking for helpers to do the Flag Week for the Little Sisters of the Poor. If you are able to distribute and collect envelopes in your area or one or two streets please see Eugene at the back of church or any of the SVP Brothers.

 

GARDEN PARTY

Don't forget the Little Sisters Garden Party on 28th May (Bank Holiday Monday). Gates are opening at 1.30pm. Admission free. Everyone welcome for an afternoon of fun.

 

APF MILL HILL

Every year APF Mill Hill has an open day for all parishes in the diocese. This year the open day for our diocese is at Ushaw College on Sunday 17th June starting with Mass at 3.00pm. All Zealators, red box holders and annual members are very welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served after Mass.

 

THANK YOU

Many thanks to all who organised the Mass last Saturday for the sick and elderly of the parish, and for the celebration afterwards. One of our parishioners said that it was wonderful to be out and among the parishioners of St. Joseph's again. All were delighted with the entertainment from the school choir.

GIFT AID PARISHIONERS

Must notify Gift Aid Organiser (Louis Dale) if they cease to pay tax. Tax reclaimed for a parishioner must not exceed the amount of tax paid by that parishioner In the tax year. ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES

Friday 3rd August-Friday 10th August. Nurses are urgently needed. Join Bishop Kevin, priests and people of the diocese. For more information see the poster at the back of church.
