LENTEN DEVOTIONS
During Lent why not try to make a special effort and come along to Mass during the week and to the other services we will be having.
During Lent there is Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Stations of the Cross every Sunday at 4.00pm. On Tuesdays during Lent church will be open between 1.30pm—3.30pm. Stations of the Cross will be prayed at 2.00pm. On Friday’s Stations of the Cross will be prayed at 3.00pm and in Malayalam at 7.00pm.
HOLY WEEK
On Monday, 10th April we are hosting the West End Churches Together Taize Prayer Hour for Holy Week. It starts at 7.00pm.
At the back of church you will find lists for volunteers to have their feet washed at the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday and for Watching after Mass. Church will remain open until 11pm so for security we need to know that at least 2 people will be in church until the end of Watching.
GOOD FRIDAY
On Good Friday there is the Procession of Witness up Tunstall Hill. It leaves Tunstall Farm at 10am and the cross is erected at 10.30am. For more information see the poster at the back of church.
LENTEN ALMS
There will be a retiring collection at both Masses next weekend for Lenten Alms in aid St Cuthbert’s Care.

WALK N HOPE
Walk n Hope is a Catholic family conference which this year is taking place in Newcastle on Saturday/Sunday 13-14th May. There are many Christian conferences around the country but most of them are in the south. We are blessed that the only one in the north is a Catholic conference and is virtually on our doorstep. The main speaker this year is Fr. Stan Fortuna from the Franciscan Friars of Renewal. As well as being an inspiring speaker, Fr Stan is also an extremely talented musician (guitar, keyboard and drums). He has a great rapport with young people and is invited to speak at many Christian youth events worldwide including World Youth Day. He also has a great affection for our late Pope or as Fr Stan calls him “JP2 The Great One!”
Walk n Hope has an excellent youth section, after last years event, some decided to stay together and meet as often as possible, to pray, sing and worship. We hope as many people as possible can attend Walk n Hope and make it a great success. To make it as easy as possible to attend the parish will pay for a bus to take people to and from Newcastle so you only pay for the conference itself. If you would like to go please sign the list at the back of church over the next few weeks so we have some idea of numbers. This is an international conference organised by and for the people of the north east. Don’t miss out. Details can also be found on the Walk n Hope website www.walkinhope.org.uk
DEANERY VISITATION
The final meeting of our Deanery Visitation is on Thursday 6th April at St Mary’s. It begins at 7pm. As Fr Carroll said when he was here everyone is welcome to come to both the meeting and the Mass.
PRISONERS OF CONSCIENCE
There is a display, from Amnesty International, at the back of church for prisoners of conscience. Please write to the people indicated on the leaflets asking for their release.
WELCOME ROTAS
Can those who are on the Welcome Rota please pick up the new rotas from the holders on the Rotas Notice Board.
WOMENS AGLOW
The next Women's Aglow meeting will be in The Chester's on Wednesday 19th April 2006. at 7.15 pm. Bookings with Jean on 5657512. To raise funds for Women's Aglow, there will be a Coffee Morning on Saturday 1st April 10.30am —1.30pm in West Park Church
GIFT AID SCHEME
I would like to thank parishioners who are in the Gift Aid Scheme. We recovered tax of £6,162.39 during this year. Parishioners in the Gift Aid Scheme need to have paid sufficient tax to cover the amount claimed back on their behalf.
If you have not paid enough tax, to cover the claim we will be making shortly for 2005/06, please let me or the Gift aid Organiser know as soon as possible. Most working people and many pensioners easily cover the tax reclaimed on their Offertory donations. If you are a taxpayer and are not in the Gift Aid Scheme please consider joining. It means that we can add another 28p to every £1 you give in Offertory donations. The 28p is money that we reclaim in tax and the Government is very keen that charities benefit from this system.
ST AIDAN’S RACE NIGHT
St Aidan’s Race Night will take place on Saturday 1st April at 7.30pm. Entry 30p –adults, 20p— children. All are welcome for a fun night Bar, Tuck Shop, and Hot Dogs will be available—all proceeds will go to Friends of St Aidan’s.
