CYCLE OF PRAYER  Ordinary Time  - AUTUMN

During Ordinary Time from September to Advent, we are asked to pray for these intentions:

The Spread of the Gospel; the Fruits of Human Work, and the Reverent Use of Creation; Justice and  Peace in the World; All Victims of War; Young People; Prisoners and their Families.   

 

OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST THE KING

Today Sunday 26th November is a Day of Special Prayer for Youth. A retiring collection will be taken to support the work of the Catholic Youth Service. As part of our centenary celebrations, let’s make this a special event for the youth of our parish, at 4pm here on the feast of Christ the King. All young people of all ages welcome.

 

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS

Today Sunday 26th November there will be an afternoon of prayer, reflection and practical, for Eucharistic Ministers at 2.30pm until 4pm in St Cuthbert’s Chapel. All ministers are asked to attend this meeting as Child Protection & Vulnerable Adults Policy will be discussed. If you cannot attend please let us know.

 

PREPARING FOR CHRISTMAS

On the three Wednesdays of Advent why not take time our from your Christmas preparations and come along and just be quiet for an hour. We will look at Scripture, reflecting on the Advent message of longing and waiting, have quiet prayer and gentle music. It will happen in St Cuthbert’s chapel from 7 - 8pm starting 6th December. PREPARE THE WAY FOR THE LORD

A day of quiet prayer and reflection, including the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Saturday 9th December led by Fr Kevin Dixon and Fr Stephen Watson 10am - 3pm at St Anne’s Pennywell –bring a packed lunch . All are welcome.

 

LITURGY MEETING

The Liturgy Meeting after Mass on  Monday, 27th November is to look at the  Liturgies for both Advent and Christmas. Everyone is welcome to attend, especially those wanting to be involved in  the services and decorating the church, during Advent and for Christmas. This will be the only opportunity to share ideas and suggestions so don’t miss out. See you there!

 

PARISH CENTENARY

Our first display on ‘Sport’ will be in church in December. Thanks for all your contributions. To celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord in January we will focus on parish baptismal records and display any photos or certificates of baptisms at St Joseph’s , that you may have. So please search through your old photos and pass them on. They will be treated with loving care and copied. N.B. All copied photos mat be used for display . If you submit them, we accept this as your permission to display them. There’s not much time, so let us have them soon, Ring Ann (.

 

CHRISTMAS CARDS

Many people have told us that instead of sending Christmas cards to friends and family the see regularly, they would rather make a donation to charity. To help, we will do an additional  page in the newsletter with your names in return for a donation to the Grace House Appeal.

 

SVP RAFFLE

All tickets for the SVP Annual Raffle must be returned this weekend please.

 

ST JOSEPH’S SCHOOL—VACANCIES

 2 Cleaners 12 hours per week, (1 after Christmas & 1 after Easter) and 1 Lunchtime Supervisor (as soon as possible) are needed for St Joseph’s School. Application forms are available at the School.  

 

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL

Amnesty International are asking us to send cards with messages of hope and solidarity to victims of human rights violations and those who defend them. Cards will be available after Mass on Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd December.

 

ST. CATHERINE’S CARE HOME

St Catherine’s Care Home is a purpose built 45—bed care home for older people in Newcastle, run by St Cuthbert’s Care. They currently have residential and nursing vacancies. For further information contact Gill Ennis (.

  

60’s NIGHT

Due to unforeseen circumstances the 60’s Night which was advertised last week has been cancelled. Sorry for any inconvenience.

 

TALKS FOR ADVENT

St Joseph’s Pastoral Centre, Gateshead (opposite Gateshead Metro Centre) at 7.15pm—8.30pm. Speakers are Fr Sean Conaty 5th December, Fr Adrian Dixon 12th Dec and Pat Kennedy 19th December see notice board for more details.

 

APPLE SALE

Cooking apples will be on sale next Sunday 3rd December, after 9.30 Mass. Money raised will go to support Fr Daiy Sebastian in India.

 

DREAMBOX—PANTO

DREAMBOX once again are proud to present their annual Panto’ at St Joseph’s Social Centre. This years production is Dick Whittington by David Farn and is on Saturday 9th December 2006 at 3pm. The cost is £5 per ticket. Please telephone the box office ( or contact Rosina for Tickets or for further details.   

 

CHRISTMAS FAYRE— ST ANNE’S PENNYWELL

St Anne’s are holding their annual Christmas Fayre on Sunday 3rd December. It promises to be full of the usual attractions and is guaranteed to be a great family day out !!   So don’t miss out– put the date in your diary: Sunday 3rd December at 1pm!

 

MISSING HYMN BOOK

Volume 1 of the Music Hymn Book is missing. Everyone using the church or chapel is welcome to use the Hymn books etc but if you do use them, please remember to put them back where you found them!
