CYCLE OF PRAYER - LENT

CHURCH CLEANING FOR EASTER
Volunteers are required to help with cleaning the church for Easter. We would like to clean the church on Wednesday 4th April after 9.10am Mass. Refreshments will be provided to all who come and help.
JOURNEY IN FAITH
Journey in Faith for anyone who wants baptism, begins on Tuesday May 1st at 7pm.

MILL HILL MISSIONS
The Zealators will be calling during the month of April to empty the Red Mission Boxes. Once again many thanks to everyone who has a Mission Box and all our collectors.
THIS IS HOLY WEEK
PASSION SUNDAY
We start of Holy week Celebrations today with the Blessing of Palms in the church grounds, weather permitting. We will all then take part in the procession into church.
Lenten Evening Devotions
Tonight at 4pm there is Stations of the Cross in St. Cuthbert’s Chapel. On Tuesday there is a last opportunity to celebrate Stations this Lent at 2pm. The Prayer Group meets at 7pm on Tuesday evening in St. Cuthbert’s Chapel.
West End Churches Together TAIZE
As part of our Holy Week celebrations we are hosting the WECT Taize Prayer Hour on Monday 2nd April at 7pm. Mass is celebrated at 9.10am
Sacrament of Reconciliation
St. Mary’s will have the Sacrament of Reconciliation 9am—7pm on Wednesday. (I suggest you avoid 10-11am) .
Indian Orthodox Mass
There is an Indian Orthodox Mass on Wednesday at 4pm.
Chrism Mass
On Thursday at 11.00am the Chrism Mass is celebrated in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Newcastle. The priests of the diocese renew their priestly commitment and the three Holy Oils used in Baptism, Confirmation and the Anointing of the Sick are blessed. This is a great diocesan celebration. Everyone Welcome
There is no Mass in the Hospital Chapel.
THE PASCHAL TRIDUUM
HOLY THURSDAY
We start the Triduum with the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7.30pm. The church will remain open until 11.00pm for Watching. For security, it would be good if there were 3 or 4 people present during watching.
During Mass we will have the Washing of Feet. This is followed by the Procession of Oils & Gifts for the Poor. There are two lists outside of St. Cuthbert’s Chapel for VOLUNTEERS to have their feet washed and for watching after the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. Please sign up as soon as possible.
GOOD FRIDAY
Good Friday is a day of Fasting and Abstinence or some other act of self denial.
Our Indian Orthodox Community have their Good Friday Service here from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm.
At 10.00am the Procession of Witness to Tunstall Hill starts at Tunstall Farm and finishes with the erection of the Cross on Tunstall Hill at 10.30am.
The Commemoration of the Passion of the Lord is celebrated at 3.00pm.
HOLY SATURDAY
On Holy Saturday the Church waits at the Lord’s tomb, meditating on his suffering and death. The altar is left bare and Mass is not celebrated. There is no Sacrament of Reconciliation on this day.
Easter Vigil
The Easter Vigil starts at 9.00pm next Saturday with the Lighting and Blessing of the Easter Fire in the church grounds. We will all then process into church which will be in darkness for the Old Testament Readings. This celebration is the greatest in the Church’s Year, where we all come together to celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord.
There will be refreshments afterwards in St Cuthbert’s Chapel.
EASTER SUNDAY
The children will lead our celebration at 9.30am Mass on Easter Sunday Morning.

Certificate IN PASTORAL THEOLOGY
The Diocese are offering the above course which involves 4 Saturdays in the year and 4 tutorials. It aims to give a deeper understanding of our faith, make the connection between our faith and parish ministry, develop a more reflective way of working in the parish. Two parishioners did this course last year and found it extremely good and beneficial. For more information contact either Fr. Gordon or Diane English.
