THE CYCLE OF PRAYER  -  ORDINARY TIME (SUMMER)

During Ordinary Time (Summer) i.e. up to September, we are asked to pray for these intentions: A deeper understanding between Christians and Jews; Those who Suffer Persecution, Oppression and Denial of Human Rights; Europe; Human Life; Seafarers.

 

FIRST COMMUNIONS

This weekend nine of our young parishioners are celebrating their First Holy Communion.  They are: Aidan Baldasera, Adam Gorzelanczyk, Martha Dale, Benedict Dale, Sam Blakey, Joshua Jenkins, Holly Lancaster, James Holyoak, and Olivia Marrs.  There are also four other children who are returning to India in July to make their First Holy Communion, they are Sandra Sibby, Kevin Siby, Riya Raju and Roshan Thomas.

Please remember all the children and their families in your prayers.

 

DEANERY FORUM

Representatives from all parishes in the Deanery are invited to an open meeting at Holy Rosary on Tuesday 12th June at 7.00pm.  Important decisions affecting all parishes will be under discussion so if you want to have your say come to this meeting.

 

THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

To help us celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, this weekend  a deanery-wide Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament has been organised. 

Sunday 10th June

10.30am — 11.30am  Immaculate Heart

12.30pm —   1.30pm  Holy Rosary

  1.00pm —   3.00pm  St. Joseph’s

  3.00pm —   4.00pm  St. Benet’s

  4.00pm —   5.00pm  Sacred Heart

  5.00pm —   6.00pm St. Hilda’s

  6.00pm —   7.00pm  St. Leonard’s

This gives us all an opportunity to come and spend some quiet time in prayer and reflection before the Blessed Sacrament on this important Feast Day.

Eucharistic Ministers are reminded that they have to renew their promises at Mass next weekend.

 

JUSTICE AND PEACE

There will be a special meeting of Justice and Peace Group on Sunday 10th June, after Mass, in the Social Centre.

 

APF MILL HILL

Every year APF Mill Hill has an open day for all parishes in the diocese.  This year the open day for our diocese is at Ushaw College on Sunday 17th June starting with Mass at 3.00pm.  All Zealators, red box holders and annual members are very welcome to attend.  Refreshments will be served after Mass.

 

FAIR TRADE STALL

Next weekend our Fair Trade stall will be open.  This month we have two new products, white granulated sugar 500grams, and 1 litre passion fruit orange juice.  This product has been available from Sainsbury’s but the local store no longer stock it.  It has been judged as one of the best orange juices available anywhere.  Why not try it?  So remember to bring along a little extra money and try something from the stall.

 

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS FOR PARISH CENTENARY

 

Sat 7th July Parish Pilgrimage to Holy Island

Please sign up for the PILGRIMAGE at the back of church as soon as possible.  The cost of the coach to Holy Island will be £7 for adults and £2 for children.  You can give the money to Anne or Monica after Mass.  Please let us know if you decide not to go, as the seat can be given to someone else.  Itinerary to follow next week when will give you more details about time of departure and also the tide timetables should you wish to go by car.

 

Fri 28th September

Concert in church with the Cobweb Orchestra and Music Makers.

 

Thurs 11th – 14th October, Parish Flower Festival to finish off our year long celebrations ending on Sunday 14th October at 3pm with Centenary Mass.  Bishop Kevin will be the main celebrant.

 

Little Sisters Flag Week 10th—16th June

The Little Sisters of the Poor do tremendous work in caring for our sick and elderly members of our community.  The Little Sisters of the Poor is a world wide religious  community, they have homes in over 150 countries including: The Philippians, India, Africa, France, Spain, USA, Australia, New Zealand, etc.  The Third World Homes rely entirely on the rest of the world to survive. 

This weekend envelopes have been put in the newsletters as we were not able to cover all of the streets of the parish.  This is purely voluntary, but please give generously if you can, and put your envelopes back in the offertory baskets next weekend.

 

CRICKET

India will play the rest of the world to try to retain the Dennis Cunningham Memorial Trophy on Sunday 1st July at 1.00 pm.  Everyone is welcome to Ryhope Hospital Cricket Ground—bring a picnic for a great family event.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL

The next Parish Pastoral Council will be held on Monday 18th June after evening Mass.  All parish groups and organisations are reminded that one of their members should attend the Council meetings.

 

ANGELUS LUNCH CLUB

Summer outing—Lunch at Washington Wild—Life Park on Wednesday 13th June.  Bus will leave St. Joseph’s at 11.30am.  Taxis will pick up at 11.30am. and go direct to Washington.  Have a good day.

 

MAD HATTER’S TEA PARTY

Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at 3pm in Barnes Park on Sunday 24th June.  Children’s Fancy Dress Competition.  A West End Churches Together Celebration.  All welcome.

 

CAKE SALE:

In July, Monica, Jim, Ann and Bob are going to India and would like to raise funds for Father Daiy Sebastians mountain parish before they leave.  There will be a Cake Sale after Mass on 1st July, when Indian food will also be available.  Your generosity last year was greatly appreciated by Father Daiy AND you enjoyed the food!. SUMMER FAYRE St. Joseph’s School are holding their Summer Fayre on Saturday 23rd June at 12 noon.  We are having a “hand made crafts” stall this year and would welcome any donations for this e.g. cards, knitted goods, lavender bags, etc.  Also any bric-a-brac and bottles for out bottles stall.  Please ring Ann on ( or contact School on (.
