THE CYCLE OF PRAYER-ORDINARY TIME (AUTUMN) During Ordinary Time from September to Advent we are asked to pray for these intentions: The Spread of the Gospel; the Harvest; the Fruits of Human Work, and the Reverent Use of Creation; Justice and Peace in the World; All Victims of War; Young People; Prisoners and their Families.

 

PRIESTS’ TRAINING FUND

The Priests’ Training Fund remains open for individual and group donations until 25th November.

 

PARISH ANNUAL MEETING 

The Annual Meeting of the Parish will take place on Monday 12th November after Mass.  We have still not received any nominations for the new Parish Council.  If you want the church to flourish and grow pray and consider putting your name forward.

 

JOURNEY IN FAITH 

The next Journey in Faith continues at 7pm in St. Cuthbert’s Chapel on 13th November for parents asking for Baptism for their children and for those First Holy Communion parents who missed any of the last sessions.

 

FRIENDS OF ST JOSEPH’S

The Friends of St. Joseph’s School (PTA) are holding their Christmas Raffle.  Tickets are on sale this weekend at the back of church.

 

LITURGY MEETING

A Liturgy Meeting has been arranged for Monday 19th November after 7pm Mass.  All are welcome.  This is to plan our Liturgy for Advent and Christmas, so if you have any ideas or if you are interested in finding out what happens please come along.

 

MASS FOR THE DECEASED OF THE PARISH

Our annual Mass for those parishioners, who have died during the last year will be celebrated next Saturday at 6.30pm.   If there is anyone you would like to add to the list who has died during the year please let us know.

MASS OF REMEMBRANCE

Father Michael McCoy will celebrate Mass on Tuesday 13th November at 7.00pm. At Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Penshaw, for deceased teaching and non-teaching staff who have worked in the City of Sunderland Schools.  Refreshments will be served afterwards.  All are welcome.

 

VOLUNTEER LISTS

We need new volunteers to come forward to join the various parish groups and to bring new ideas and suggestions forward.  There are lists at the back of church for you to sign up to these groups.  If you are already a member please sign up as well.

 

Sister Helen Prejean’s Visit 

Sister Helen Prejean who wrote “Dead Man Walking” is visiting Newcastle City Hall on 17th and 18th November.

 

 

 

 

YEARLY BOX

The Yearly Box will be paid out on Tuesday 13th November.  Thank you for saving with us.  The Box will re-commence on Friday 16th November.  New members are very welcome.  Last year we were able to support, Grace House Appeal, Cancer Research, CAFOD and The Angelus Club.

If you haven't had enough already Bob’s Bramleys will be on sale this Sunday.  All money raised will be donated to Father Joe in Peru and Father Daiy in India.

 

 

 

SOCIAL EVENING 

St. Joseph’s invite you to a social evening on Thursday 15th November at 7.00 pm. At South Hylton WMC.  £3.00 a ticket and all proceeds are to go to CAFOD.

 

REPOSITORY 

On sale in the repository we have a good selection of children’s books, Christmas Cards, Advent Calendars.  Why not go in a have a look?  Next weekend the Advent and Christmas stock will be on sale in the Narthex.

 

LITTLE SISTERS CHRISTMAS FAYRE

The Little Sisters are holding their Christmas Fayre on Saturday 24th November from 11.00 a.m.  “You cannot afford to miss it.”

 

CHRISTMAS CARDS

Instead of sending Christmas Cards to parishioners you see at church every weekend, why not make a donation to charity.  We will put your greetings on the notice board at the back of church.  Hopefully we will be able to fill at least one notice board and at the same time help those less fortunate than ourselves.

 

PARISH SPONSORED WALK 

On Sunday 18th November—a short 3 miles walk from Roker to Whitburn (and back) suitable for everyone but one with a real challenge.  Following our successful Centenary year we want to continue as a community to look to the future.  A walk with a difference—your challenge is to ask someone or a family from a country other than your own, to walk with you; and together raise money for those less fortunate (CAFOD).  Meet at Roker Pier to start at 1.00pm.—bring your walking partners and money for an ice-cream.  Sponsors forms available next week.

 

WOMEN AGLOW

The next Women's Aglow meeting is on Wednesday 21st November at the Chesters at 7.15 pm.  Men are welcome to attend.  The speakers are John and Joanne O’Connor.  John has an amazing testimony.  There will be a buffet and coffee at a cost of £9.50.  For further info contact Bernadette (.

 

MEMORIAL BOOK

If anyone wishes to add the name of a loved one to our Centenary Memorial Book, please do so by next Sunday (18th November) by writing the name on an envelope and putting the envelope and donation in the offertory basket.
