THE CYCLE OF PRAYER  -  EASTERTIDE

During Easter, we are asked to pray for these intentions: New Members of the Church; Vocations; The Right Use of the Media; the Church; Human Work.

 

MASS TIMES

There are two additional Masses on Saturday.  In the morning as part of our Centenary Celebrations we are having Mass for the sick and elderly of the parish at 11.00 am.  There will be refreshments afterwards in the Social Centre.  At 3.30 pm. Our Filipino community will be celebrating Mass.  El Shaddai therefore are meeting at 1.00 pm.

 

MAY PROCESSION

This evening we are having devotions and procession in honour of Our Blessed Lady.  It starts at 4.00pm.  The school children have been invited to come along and our First Communion children will take pride of place.  Please come along and celebrate the gift of Our Lady in this her special month of May.

 

WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY

Next Sunday is a day of Special Prayer for all involved in the media.  There will be a Retiring Collection for World Communications Day.

 

MAY ROSARIES

If anyone would like a rosary said in their home during the month of May, please contact Julia Burnham ( as soon as possible

 

FAIR TRADE

Our Fair Trade Stall is open this weekend.  Our purchases from Traidcraft for the year ending March 2007 totalled £4,784.  Many, many thanks for your continuing and generous support.  Let’s see if we can exceed that total in the coming year.

 

ASCENSION & CORPUS CHRISTI

The Feasts of the Ascension and the Body and Blood of Christ have been moved to a Sunday.  This year Corpus Christi is on 10th June and Ushaw College is holding a Diocesan Celebration starting at 2.00pm.  For more information please see the poster at the back of church.

 

JOURNEY IN FAITH 

Our Journey in Faith continues on Tuesday, 15th May at 7pm in St. Cuthbert’s Chapel.  All candidates for Confirmation (young and old), couples preparing for marriage and any parent asking for Baptism for their child are asked to attend these sessions.  All are welcome to come along and support all the candidates for Sacraments and give them their experiences of their faith.

 

First communions

Our First Communion Programme continues on Wednesday.  The children meet in the Social Centre at 6pm.  Please remember to pray for them and their families

 

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS FOR PARISH CENTENARY

 

Sat 19th May — 11am Mass for sick and elderly; lunch will be served after Mass in the Social Centre.

 

Sat 7th July Parish Pilgrimage to Holy Island

Please sign up for the PILGRIMAGE at the back of church as soon as possible.  We will give you more details about time of departure and also the tide timetables should you wish to go by car.

 

Fri 28th September

Concert in church with the Cobweb Orchestra and Music Makers.

 

Thurs 11th –14th October, Parish Flower Festival to finish off our year long celebrations ending on Sunday 14th October at 3pm with Centenary Mass.  Bishop Kevin will be the main celebrant.

 

FLOWER FESTIVAL CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

We are looking for a title for our Flower Festival and are open to suggestions.  So if you are good with words and can think of an appropriate title (short and sweet) write it down and place in the box marked Flower Festival at the back of church as soon as possible.  Our last Flower Festival was “Thine Be The Glory”.

 

GRAND CONCERT IN AID OF SIGHT FIRST

On Saturday 19th May there is to be a Grand Concert by the Felling Silver Band, Music Makers Ladies Choir and an Organ Recital by Colin Wood at West Park Church.  For more information please see the poster at the back of the church.

 

EVANGELISATION CONFERENCE

On Tuesday 15th May there is to be an Evangelisation Conference at Ushaw College from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.  Anyone interested telephone Father Stephen at 528 1992

 

CENTENARY COMMITTEE

There is a meeting of the Centenary Committee on Monday evening after 7.00pm. Mass.  All are welcome.

DO SOMETHING AMAZING AND BE A BLOOD DONOR!

There will be a Blood Donor Session held in St. Joseph’s Social Centre on Wednesday 16th May from 14:30 – 19:00. If you are aged between 17 and 59 years, weigh at least 7sts 12 lbs / 50 kgs. and are in good health then you can be a blood donor. (Existing donors can give up to the age of 70 years)   If you require further information please call (.

 

ST. LUKE’S NEIGHBOURHOOD TRUST (with St. Luke’s Pallion Church Council) 

“Do you care about your community and want to make a difference?”  We seek to appoint “A church related community development worker” (training provided). To begin 1st September 2007 18.5 hours per week.  If you need any more information see the poster at the back of church.
