THE CYCLE OF PRAYER-ORDINARY TIME (SUMMER)

During Ordinary Time (Summer) i.e. up to September, we are asked to pray for these intentions: A deeper understanding between Christians and Jews; Those who Suffer Persecution, Oppression and Denial of Human Rights; Europe; Human Life; Seafarers.

 

Father Daley’s Diamond Jubilee

Our Mass on Friday is at 7.00 pm. And is in Thanksgiving.  It is Father Daley’s Diamond Jubilee.  As part of our Centenary Celebrations we will not only be celebrating his 60 years as a priest but also the Sacrament of Holy Orders.  A number of priests who have served in our parish over the years will be coming to help us celebrate.  Please come along and celebrate with us and especially with Father Daley who served as our parish priest for 25 years.

 

Fair Trade

Our Fair Trade stall is open for business this weekend.  There will not be a stall in August so come along and stock up for the holidays.

HEALTH AND SAFETY NOTICE

Last weekend votive candles were lit and not put into the stands correctly.  As a consequence a lighted candle fell and burnt the plastic on another candle.  Please only light candles is there is enough space to place them SECURELY into the correct stands.  We would urge people to limit the number of candles they light and remember that others after you may want to light a candle.

 

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS FOR PARISH CENTENARY

Fri 28th September

Concert in church with the Cobweb Orchestra and Music Makers.

 

Thurs 11th - 14th October, Parish Flower Festival to finish off our year long celebrations ending on Sunday 14th October at 3 pm with Centenary Mass.  Bishop Kevin will be the main celebrant.  There is no 9.30am Mass that day.

 

CENTENARY FLOWER FESTIVAL

People are very generous sponsoring flowers at Christmas and Easter for our remembrance book.  We are now inviting you to make donations in memory of loved ones for our Centenary remembrance book.  If you would like to remember someone place your donation in an envelope marked “Flower Festival”, write the name/names of those to be remembered clearly and place in the Offertory basket.  The closing date for donations is the end of August, any donations and names received after this date cannot be included in the book.  Thank you.

 

 HOLY ISLAND

A wonderful day was had by everyone and thanks go to everyone who helped to make the day so special.  Many were involved in organising the day and making it so successful and, without the pilgrims it wouldn’t have been a pilgrimage!  God Bless us all.  Thank you.

BEREAVEMENT GROUP

Are holding an evening of reflection on Monday 23rd July in St. Joseph’s Social Centre at 7.00 pm for anyone who has lost a loved one in any circumstances. “We all have to find some way of handling our grief and a means of carrying on when things become unbearable.  It is as this loss is faced and expressed that a way forward can be discovered”.  Chris Smith (formerly from Ushaw) will be present to lead us with our reflection.  Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available.  Any further information please ring Cath Kaley ( / Kathleen Hounslow ( / Geraldine Murphy (.  Transport can be arranged if required.

Once again your generosity is unsurpassed.  Thanks to your donations a further £435 can be passed on to Father Diay and his parish.

 

Hospital Chaplaincy

If you are in hospital and require a visit from the chaplain you must make this known to the ward staff.  The hospital does not give the names to the chaplaincy  any more.
