THE CYCLE OF PRAYER - EASTERTIDE

THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST 9th & 10th JUNE
To help us celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ a deanery-wide Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament has been organised. It will start on 9th June with Exposition at St. Mary’s from 4.00pm—5.00pm, Holy Rosary from 4.30pm—5.30pm.

WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY
Today is the 41st World Communications Day. The official theme is “Children and the Media: A Challenge for Education”. In his message for World Communications Day, Pope Benedict challenges us to make use of the media and new technology in the formation of the next generation: “Training in the proper use of the media is essential for the cultural, moral and spiritual development of children”. Please remember the work of communications professionals today.
There will be a retiring collection at both Masses this weekend.
First communions
Our First Communion Programme continues on Wednesday. The children meet in the Social Centre at 6pm. While their parents meet at the same time in church. This is the last session of the First Holy Communion programme for this year. First Holy Communions will be celebrated on 2nd, 3rd and 10th of June. Some of our children are returning to India to celebrate their First Holy Communion with their extended families Please remember to pray for them and their families.
SAINT ANTHONY’S CONCERT
St. Anthony’s Sixth Form choir will present a concert of choral music in Oak Lea convent chapel on Friday at 7pm. There will be refreshments afterwards. A donation of £3 (to be paid at the door would be welcome. The choir are raising funds for their visit to Prague where they will be singing in the Cathedral.
LAY TRAINING FUND
Next weekend there is a Retiring Collection at both Masses for the Lay Training Fund.

Thurs 11th –14th October, Parish Flower Festival to finish off our year long celebrations ending on Sunday 14th October at 3pm with Centenary Mass. Bishop Kevin will be the main celebrant.
FLOWER FESTIVAL CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS
We are looking for a title for our Flower Festival and are open to suggestions. So if you are good with words and can think of an appropriate title (short and sweet) write it down and place in the box marked Flower Festival at the back of church as soon as possible. Our last Flower Festival was “Thine Be The Glory”.
CRICKET
India will play the rest of the world to try to retain the Dennis Cunningham Memorial Trophy on Sunday 1st July at 1.00 pm. Everyone is welcome to Ryhope Hospital Cricket Ground—bring a picnic for a great family event.

WALKING WITH WHEELS
A programme of assisted walks for people with limited mobility and wheelchair users living across Sunderland, where you can meet new people to keep you fit and improve your health. Walks are set at a moderate pace and the maximum length is 2 miles. Walks are led by qualified leaders. Carers are welcome. Wednesday 30th May Chester le Street River walk starts at 11 am with packed lunch or café in park. Leave park at 2 pm. Cost £3 per person. Carers free! Little Sisters of the Poor Flag Week 10th—16th June
We are looking for helpers to do the Flag Week for the Little Sisters of the Poor. If you are able to distribute and collect envelopes in your area or one or two streets please see Eugene at the back of church or any of the SVP Brothers.
