THE CYCLE OF PRAYER-ORDINARY TIME (AUTUMN)
During Ordinary Time from September to Advent we are asked to pray for these intentions: The Spread of the Gospel; the Harvest; the Fruits of Human Work, and the Reverent Use of Creation; Justice and Peace in the World; All Victims of War; Young People; Prisoners and their Families.
All saints day Thursday is the Feast of All Saints and is a Holyday of Obligation. Mass is celebrated at 12.00pm in the Hospital Chapel and at 7.00pm here in St. Joseph’s.
ALL SOULS
On Friday we celebrate the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed - All Souls Day. Mass is at 9.10am.
ROSARY
There will be a Rosary in Bishopwearmouth Cemetery on Sunday 4th November for all our deceased parishioners, relatives and friends. Please meet at the Hylton Road gate at 3.00 pm.
MASS FOR THE DECEASED OF THE PARISH
Our annual Mass for those parishioners, who have died during the last year will be celebrated on Saturday 17th November at 6.30pm. Next week we will publish the list of all who have died, but if there in anyone you would like to add to the list who has died during the year please let us know.
40th ANNIVERSARY OF 1967 ABORTION ACT
The Catholic Bishops’ Conferences of Scotland, England and Wales have issued an open letter on the anniversary of 1967 Abortion Act. It is too long to publish in the newsletter so there are copies available in St. Cuthbert’s Chapel.
MISSION APPEAL
Next weekend Sister Ellen from the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary is making a Mission appeal. She will tell us about their work in the Missions, there will be a Retiring Collection at both Masses.
PRIESTS’ TRAINING FUND
This weekend there is a Retiring Collection at both Masses for the Priests’ Training Fund. The fund remains open for individual and group donations until 25th November. There are envelopes at the back of church for individual and group donations and for those who wish to gift aid their donation.
Each Wednesday evening during October at 6.30pm we will celebrate the Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Benediction, All are welcome.

Congratulations and many thanks to the children of the Primary School for their great efforts in raising £700 for the work of CAFOD with the poor and deprived people of the world.
FAIR TRADE
Since our last sale in September we have made £360.51. Our next Sale is on 10th and 11th November.
SOCIAL EVENING
St. Joseph’s invite you to a social evening on Thursday 15th November at 7.00 pm. At South Hylton WMC. Music by Peter Green. It is to be a 50-50 DANCE £3.00 a ticket and all proceeds are to go to CAFOD.
JOURNEY IN FAITH
The next Journey in Faith starts at 7pm in St. Cuthbert’s Chapel on 30th October for parents asking for Baptism for their children and for those First Holy Communion parents who missed any of the last sessions.
Christian Life Programme
The Christian Life programme continues on Monday, 29th October after evening Mass in St. Cuthbert’s Chapel.
Tickets for the SVP Annual Raffle are available at the back of church price 50p per ticket or £5 per book. First prize is £5,000.
Sister Helen Prejean’s Visit
Sister Helen Prejean who wrote “Dead Man Walking” is visiting Newcastle City Hall on 17th and 18th November. The book is about her relationship with a prisoner on death row who turned to her for spiritual guidance. For more information about Sister Helen and this important conference please see the Diocesan Website. We hope to screen “Dead Man Walking” at 7.45pm on Saturday 10th November. Tickets are £25.00.
Mass in Polish will be celebrated at 4 pm on the 4th Sunday of every month in St. Benet’s Church Sunderland. Confessions before at 3.30 pm. Refreshments after Mass in the Parish Hall.
Isabel would also like to thank all those who gave her generous donations for the apples. The sum of £55 has been given to CAFOD.
PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL
Elections to the Parish Pastoral Council are well overdue. As yet, we have received no nominations. Please consider becoming a member of the Council. It would be good to have new blood and fresh ideas to lead us into the next century of our parish.
REMEMBRANCE BOOK
If anyone would like the name of a loved one (or a family name) added to our Centenary Book, could they please place a donation for CAFOD in an envelope marked Remembrance Book and write the name/names of the person or family to be remembered clearly and place in the OFFERTORY BASKET as soon as possible. The Book will remain on view for a few more weeks.
FEDERATION OF MASTER BUILDERS
The Sunderland Master Builders are holding another “Race Night” on Saturday 10th November 2007 at 8.00 pm in the Social Centre. All proceeds are for the “Macmillan Cancer Relief”. All are welcome - Tickets from Celia and Barry Robinson, telephone 528 9154.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNIONS
The parents of the children who will be preparing for First Communion next year will make their commitment to the faith at both Masses next weekend.
