THE CYCLE OF PRAYER  -  ORDINARY TIME (SUMMER)

During Ordinary Time (Summer) i.e. up to September, we are asked to pray for these intentions: A deeper understanding between Christians and Jews; Those who Suffer Persecution, Oppression and Denial of Human Rights; Europe; Human Life; Seafarers.

 

FIRST COMMUNIONS

This weekend twenty two of our young parishioners are celebrating their First Holy Communion.  They are: Matthew Maltas, Liam Watson, Georgina Buck, Owen Spoors, Joseph Stoker, Lewis Snaith, Ryan Vincent, Connor Vipond, Miro Amoyan, Oyin Dinakin, Patrick Wilkinson, Pauline Christe, Joshua Cuya, Alyanna Eligio, Laura Hedley, Josef Scott, Aiden Cliff, Jeslin Jossy Mathew, Rebecca Boys, Cameron Bruce, Ellie Duncan and Jacob Cliff.

Please remember all the children and their families in your prayers.

 

BAPTISM AND CONFIRMATION

Parents for Baptism and all candidates for Confirmation will meet in St. Cuthbert’s Chapel at 7pm. On Tuesday 5th June.  Also remember the parents, children and our young people and their families who are preparing for the Sacraments.

 

THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

To help us celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, next weekend  a deanery-wide Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament has been organised.  It will start on next Saturday with Exposition at St. Mary’s from 4.00pm-5.00pm, & Holy Rosary from 4.30pm-5.30pm.

12.30pm -   1.30pm  Holy Rosary

  1.00pm -   3.00pm  St. Joseph’s

  3.00pm -   4.00pm  St. Benet’s

This gives us all an opportunity to come and spend some quiet time in prayer and reflection before the Blessed Sacrament on this important Feast Day.

 

Eucharistic Ministers are reminded that they have to renew their promises at Mass next weekend.

 

JUSTICE AND PEACE

There will be a special meeting of Justice and Peace Group on Sunday 10th June, after Mass, in the Social Centre.

 

Little Sisters Flag Week 10th-16th June

We are looking for helpers for the Little Sisters Flag Week. If you are able to distribute and collect envelopes in your area or one or two streets please see Eugene at the back of church or any of the SVP Brothers.

 

APF MILL HILL

Every year APF Mill Hill has an open day for all parishes in the diocese.  This year the open day for our diocese is at Ushaw College on Sunday 17th June starting with Mass at 3.00pm.  All Zealators, red box holders and annual members are very welcome to attend.  Refreshments will be served after Mass.

 

FAIR TRADE STALL

As we will be celebrating the last of this year’s First Communions next weekend, our next Fair Trade Stall will be held on 16th & 17th June.  If you need any goods before then please see Diane English.

 

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS FOR PARISH CENTENARY

Sat 7th July Parish Pilgrimage to Holy Island

Please sign up for the PILGRIMAGE at the back of church as soon as possible.  The cost of the coach to Holy Island will be £7 for adults and £2 for children.  You can give the money to Anne or Monica after Mass.  Please let us know if you decide not to go, as the seat can be given to someone else.  Itinerary to follow next week when will give you more details about time of departure and also the tide timetables should you wish to go by car.

 

Fri 28th September

Concert in church with the Cobweb Orchestra and Music Makers.

 

Thurs 11th – 14th October, Parish Flower Festival to finish off our year long celebrations ending on Sunday 14th October at 3pm with Centenary Mass.  Bishop Kevin will be the main celebrant.

 

FLOWER FESTIVAL CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

We are looking for a title for our Flower Festival and are open to suggestions.  So if you are good with words and can think of an appropriate title (short and sweet) write it down and place in the box marked Flower Festival at the back of church as soon as possible.  Our last Flower Festival was “Thine Be The Glory”.

 

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Hannah Metcalfe aged 7 who was the winner of the Centenary “Design a Logo” competition at the children’s party.  The standard was really high and all design can be seen in a folder at the back of church.  Hannah’s design will be used on all posters and publicity.  Well done!

 

CRICKET

India will play the rest of the world to try to retain the Dennis Cunningham Memorial Trophy on Sunday 1st July at 1.00 pm.  Everyone is welcome to Ryhope Hospital Cricket Ground—bring a picnic for a great family event.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL

The next Parish Pastoral Council will be held on Monday 18th June after evening Mass.  All parish groups and organisations are reminded that one of their members should attend the Council meetings.

 

MINSTERACRES

Are celebrating the anniversary of the building of their accommodation block.  A group of volunteers from St. Joseph’s went to help with the building work.  If you helped them in any way can you please contact Minsteracres  as they would like you to be included in their celebrations.

 

GIFT AID PARISHIONERS

Must notify Gift Aid Organiser (Louis Dale) if they cease to pay tax.  Tax reclaimed for a parishioner must not exceed the amount of tax paid by that parishioner in the tax year.  If a person ceases employment during a year, it may still be possible to claim tax as long as they paid enough tax in the whole year.

PLANNED GIVING

There are a number of spare envelopes at the back of church for anyone wanting to join planned giving.  Please complete the red form and return in the Offertory basket.

 

ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES

Friday 3rd August—Friday 10th August.  Nurses are urgently needed.  Join Bishop Kevin, priests and people of the diocese.  For more information see the poster at the back of church.

 

SUMMER FAYRE

St. Joseph’s School are holding their Summer Fayre on Saturday 23rd June at 12 noon.  We are having a “hand made crafts” stall this year and would welcome any donations for this e.g. cards, knitted goods, lavender bags, etc.  Also any bric-a-brac and bottles for out bottles stall.  Please ring Ann on ( or contact School (.
